Travel Through Time With the Holland Area Arts Council to Celebrate 50 Years Creating Art and Community!

The Holland Area Arts Council is happy to invite the community to travel through time at our FREE Back in Time Family Party on Saturday, September 16 from 12 to 3pm as part of their 50th anniversary celebration of creating art and community!

Possibly the most important thank you of their 50th anniversary celebration, this event is for the Lakeshore community members who have grown with the Arts Council over the last five decades and will continue to grow with us. This free event is their gift to the generations who imagine, create and explore the arts.

Each guest will receive a passport for their adventure Back in Time, and no preregistration is required. The journey will make stops at each decade for themed art projects and family-friendly activities, starting in 1967 when the Arts Council was founded. Indigo tie-dye bandanas and make love beads while grooving to the Beatles.

Then, jump into 1977 by making pet rocks and sock puppet muppets. Find a Keith Haring-style collaborative mural in 1987 with some big-haired ladies to lead the way, and get a temporary tattoo, build a grunge doll and rock out to 1990s music videos in 1997. Finish the journey by learning how to draw Manga in the 00s.

Guests can play dress up and take home a photo in the time-machine photo booth, provided by MI Photo Booth, and get their own mini Jeff Koons balloon dog.

Hot dogs and popcorn will be served throughout the event for snacks, and, of course, birthday cake and ice cream because this is a celebration of five decades of creating art and community.

Back in Time time travel will all happen at the Holland Area Arts Council, located at 150 East 8th Street. Call (616) 396-3278, email or visit for more information.
