Ledge Craft Lane Presents: The Firefighters of Grand Ledge Past and Present

Join us all month long as we honor the brave men and women of the Grand Ledge Fire Department. Our art gallery is currently filled with pictures, stories, and memorabilia of the fires and firemen of our town, past and present. Come soak up some history down at Ledge Craft Lane today. View the exhibit now through September 30th.

On display we have an original 1907 leather helmet, and an early 1900’s leather bucket, old hoses, fire gear and much more. Read and view documentation on the Crawford Chair fire of 1943, Ewing’s Shoe store fire, Pasquel’s fire of 1985, China Chef fire of 1993 and many more. We have pictures going back to 1885 but sadly we do not know the names of some of these past heroes. Help us keep our history alive by searching through pictures in our gallery to help us reveal who some of these firefighters were.

On Saturday September 16th we will be hosting the Firemen’s open house between 2pm-4pm. Come meet Grand Ledge’s current Fire fighters, touch a fire truck, join in on a hose demonstration, crawl through the smoke house, and so much more. Did you ever wonder how much their gear weights? You can find out for yourself by getting dressed in full uniform. Bring your cameras as many picture opportunities will be available.

Ledge Craft Lane would like to extend its thanks to Chief Rodney VanDeCasteele and the rest of the fire fighters for helping us honor those that came before, preserving history, collecting memorabilia and getting it all ready to display.
