Award-winning, Grand Rapids-based Long Road Distillers, has opened a brand new kitchen at their location on the West Side of downtown. Known for their line-up of spirits and craft cocktails, the distillery will now offer expanded dinner and brunch menus, as well as a reorganized cocktail menu.
“When we started this project over three years ago, our goal was to make the best spirits in the world from local ingredients, without taking shortcuts,” said Long Road Co-Owner Jon O’Connor. “Our second goal was to have the best cocktail bar West Michigan has ever seen,” he added. “Food was always part of the discussion, but to pull off the first two goals, we decided to wait before placing a strong emphasis on creating the full restaurant experience.”
Having just celebrated their two year anniversary, and with their larger kitchen, Long Road is now poised to offer that experience through expanded food menus that complement their philosophy on crafting spirits and their cocktail program.
New Head Chef Max Rieth, formerly of Grove and the Winchester, among others, joined the team to ensure a smooth transition to the new kitchen and to help elevate the dining experience for guests when they visit.
“We’re excited to begin pairing our spirits and cocktails with more substantial food offerings,” says Rieth. “Our focus is on creating bold, clean flavors using fresh, local ingredients whenever possible, just like we do in the distillery or behind the bar.”
Long Road’s new Kitchen Menu has classics like a Burger, Steak, or house-made potato Gnocchi, but also offers more adventurous plates like Sardines, Bone Marrow, and Shrimp and Chorizo Hush Puppies. The distillery is working with a number of local farms and purveyors such as Visser Farms, Vertical Paradise Farms, and River Valley Farms and Meats.
This Sunday, June 4, Long Road will roll out a new Brunch Menu and expanded Sunday Brunch hours, now offered from 10 am to 3 pm, with the regular Kitchen Menu available from 3 to 9 pm. To celebrate the new hours and new menu, the distillery is providing free house-made doughnuts for each guest who visits between 10 am and noon on Sundays during the month of June.
With spring ingredients now readily available, Long Road is also rolling out a completely reorganized Cocktail Menu, now categorized by “The Classics” (drinks that have become staples behind the bar at Long Road and available year-round) and “The Latest” (offerings changed regularly based on fresh, seasonal ingredients from local purveyors). In addition to only using spirits made 100% in-house, the bar team at Long Road makes all of their own bitters, tinctures, simple syrups, tonics, vermouth and more.
