If you’re looking for a fun spring outing with the kids, the Grand Traverse Butterfly House & Bug Zoo is opening for the season on May 1st, and is located just outside of Traverse City in Williamsburg. Their garden is filled with plants and flowers that showcase hundreds of butterflies from all around the world. Visit their Bug Zoo and check out all the bugs on display, including a Tarantula Tree, Honeybee Observation Hive, and even a frog exhibit.

On April 29th Short’s Brewing Company will be hosting Short’s Anni Party 13irteen. They’re closing the street in downtown Bellaire to celebrate their anniversary with 30 Short’s brews and Starcut Ciders, local food, two specialty Private Stache bottle releases, and live musical performances, including their first ever Battle of the Bands winner. Half of the party’s profits will go back to the village of Bellaire to assist with village improvements and beautifications, and tickets are available at Short’s website.

Enjoy outdoor dining for a good cause at The Dockside restaurant on Torch Lake on Tuesday, May 2nd. Fifty percent of all food & drink purchased on the 2nd during the Spring Fling Fundraiser will benefit the Grass River Natural Area, which is Northern Michigan’s premier nature preserve. The Dockside is located right on the shores of Torch Lake in Bellaire, and offers burgers and baskets, deli sandwiches, fresh salads, Mexican food, and great sunsets.
