Exchange Food for Fines during National Library Week at Loutit District Library

As part of its observance of National Library Week, Loutit District Library is again offering patrons the opportunity to exchange Food for Fines.

From April 9th through April 15th, patrons can bring in non-perishable food or personal hygiene products for donation to Love in Action of the Tri-Cities and receive a waiver of $1.00 per item (up to a maximum of $5.00) off their current late fees at the library.

The food items most needed by Love in Action include “Helper” cereal, spaghetti sauce, soups: chunky and condensed, canned tuna, and chicken, canned fruits: peaches, pears and fruit cocktail, applesauce, canned tomatoes, jams and jellies, peanut butter, pancake mix, syrup, and canned pasta – non-expired items only.

Personal hygiene products, such as toilet paper, shampoo and conditioner, diapers (all sizes) and wipes, laundry detergent, soap, shaving cream, razors, toothbrushes, and deodorant, are needed as well.

Everyone is invited to donate food and necessities. Late fees are not a prerequisite. Drop items off at the checkout desk on the main floor of the library.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries – school, public, academic and special – participate.
