The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College is about to close its galleries to the public beginning April 10th into mid June 2017 to accommodate major retrofits involving the environmental controls the Dennos.
While the rest of the world is doing spring cleaning, we will be making a mess. Before we get too far into that process we thought it would be fun to invite regional artists to do spring cleaning in their studios and have them bring works of art they would really like to move from their studio and sell.
Hence we will be turning our galleries over to about 30 well known invited artists to create this one stop shopping opportunity for those in the community who are also spring cleaning at home and in the process thinking about new art work for their newly fresh and clean rooms.
This will be an opportunity to get great art, from great artists at great prices. All art will be labeled with the original price and the sale price. There will be work in all artistic media including, paintings, prints, jewelry, fiber arts, photography, metal and pottery.
The concept for this type of what sometimes is referred to as an “artist’s garage sale” is not a new idea with various examples of similar sales events occurring at artistic venues in Michigan and the nation, but it is the first time the Dennos will host such an event. “As the museum gets ready to close for our new addition and renovation, we wanted to do a fun event that would benefit regional artists and art buyers before we close the galleries,” said Museum Director, Eugene Jenneman. The event is free and open to the public.
The sale begins with a reception and cash bar, Friday, April 7th from 5-8 pm. The artists will be present during the opening to visit with guests and share stories about their work. The sale continues Saturday, April 8th, 10am to 5pm and Sunday, April 9th, 1pm to 4pm. Sales will be conducted through the Museum Store and all major credit cards are accepted. For additional information call the Museum Store at 231-995-1586.
Following this art sale, the museum will close to the public with the exception of previously scheduled events. Milliken Auditorium will not be impacted by this closing and will continue to operate as scheduled.
