Inland Seas Volunteer Open House scheduled for Thursday, March 9 from 4:00-7:00 pm in the ISEA Education Center, 100 Dame Street, Suttons Bay. Attendees can learn ways in which they can help protect the Great Lakes through education. ISEA staff and current volunteers will be available to talk with potential volunteers at the event. Coffee and snacks will also be provided.
A variety of volunteer positions are available with ISEA including Schoolship instructor, crew, boat shop, office, grounds/maintenance, and Education Center and Museum Docent. “We have volunteer positions for all skill levels and abilities.” said Tom Maynard, ISEA Volunteer Coordinator and Educator. “Because we rely on a large amount of volunteers to run our programs, we provide this opportunity every year for people interested in learning more.”
Inland Seas needs 15-40 volunteers each day during Spring Schoolship season to fill demand for the programs. “This Spring we are almost to capacity which means that both schooners, Inland Seas and the Manitou, which we lease, have programs both morning and afternoon five days a week for six weeks.” Additional volunteers are needed behind the scenes as well to prepare teacher folders, enter data, and more to keep the organization sailing smoothly.
