What’s Happening In Northern Michigan: Visiting Santa, Unsilent Night

Northern Michigan’s News Leader

Santa will be spending a lot of time at Shanty Creek Resorts in Bellaire this holiday season. On December 17th, he’ll be having both breakfast and dinner at Shanty Creek. The same day, Santa will be riding the chairlift on Schuss Mountain for the torchlight parade, followed by a reveal of this year’s Christmas tree! Catch Santa reading stories to kids on December 23rd, and hitting the slopes on December 25th after a long day’s work. As a gift to you, ski for free that day! You’ve got lots of chances to visit with Santa and let him know what’s on your wish list this year.

Santa will also be stopping by the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury on Sunday, December 18th. This is a free event, where families are invited to stop by the Sundance Steakhouse and visit with Santa. Complimentary pictures are included, and the first 100 kids will also receive free goodie bags. The Sunday Breakfast Buffet will be available, as well as horse-drawn carriage rides and the snow tubing hill.

Left Foot Charley Winery in Traverse City is hosting the family friendly 7th Annual Unsilent Night on Friday, December 9th. Unsilent Night is a free, outdoor participatory sound sculpture played through a roving swarm of boom boxes, mp3 players, iPhones, iPads, and laptop computers. Each person is asked to bring their own portable musical device to carry along the walk through The Village at Grand Traverse Commons. Reservations are required, and upon reserving your spot you will receive the information for getting your MP3 or CD. The sound sculpture will conclude at Left Foot Charley Winery for free hot cider, cookies, and live music.
