As the Michigan Brewers Guild looks toward its 20th Anniversary in 2017, it continues to expand its programming and outreach around the state, and beyond. With that, the Guild has announced a new seasonal magazine geared directly toward its 2,000 or so current Enthusiast Members called MiBrew. The inaugural issue will be published in November, 2016 and is being published by VP Demand Creation Services out of Traverse City.
Current Enthusiast Members will receive four editions of this publication mailed directly to them. For just $55 a year, Enthusiast members also receive an official membership card, specially-designed t-shirt, opportunity to buy a festival ticket during the pre-sale two days prior to the public, one-hour early admission for all four official Guild festivals (with the purchase of an admission ticket) and invitations to special Members-Only events. Enthusiast memberships can be purchased online here. Those who join by November 1 will receive the inaugural edition, and will also be eligible for the pre-sale for the ever-popular Michigan Winter Beer Festival, February 24-25 in Grand Rapids.
“We know MiBrew will become a valued benefit for our Enthusiasts—along with festival ticket pre-sale and the early festival admission—who are our strongest allies in local craft beer culture,” says Scott Graham, Executive Director of the Michigan Brewers Guild. “MiBrew will be in addition to our current annual publication, Michigan. The Great Beer State., which we’ve published with HOUR Media since 2009 (and will be released again in early 2017). We feel each publication has its own market and purpose and look forward to bringing more attention to our industry through the stories contained in each.”
The 32-page magazine will feature a variety of articles that will introduce readers to our brewers, retail outlets and even some of our individual Enthusiasts. We’ll also have stories about the musical entertainers who perform at our festivals, recreational ideas around the state, recipes and food pairing recommendations, label art features, historical pieces and more.
Rick Coates, a long-time supporter of the industry (who was involved when the Guild was formed in 1997) and noted beverage-food-travel writer, will serve as editor of MiBrew. We’ve also enlisted the help of some of our key industry leaders to provide editorial content for each issue, including Fred Bueltmann, The Beervangelist from New Holland Brewing Company; Lucy Saunders, author of Grilling with Beer, The Best of American Beer & Food and Cooking with Beer; and Dianna Stampfler, Guild publicist and president of Promote Michigan, among others.
