Long Road Distillers Limited-Release Cherry Brandy Available Beginning Tonight

Grand Rapids-based Long Road Distillers will release their new Cherry Brandy on Wednesday, September 21 when their doors open at 4 pm. The spirit was fermented and distilled 100% on-site at the West Side distillery from 8,000 pounds of tart cherries sourced from Heffron Farms in Belding, Michigan.

Long Road Cherry Brandy, at 80 proof or 40% alcohol by volume, has the aroma of ripe, dark cherries with hints of mulling spice, cinnamon and pepper. The taste is a well-balanced combination of cherry and subtle almond, a result of the cherry pit contributing flavors to the final spirit. A long, smooth finish will delight those sipping the spirit neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail.

Heffron Farms in Belding, Michigan is one of the distillery’s largest suppliers, providing them with red winter wheat, corn, rye, and other locally grown produce for both production of spirits and the food and drink menu in the restaurant. From May 2015 to May 2016, Long Road used nearly 300,000 pounds of Heffron Farms grain, tripling the distilleries goals for their first year of production. They attribute their early success on the spirits awards circuit, in part, to the high quality ingredients they have access to through local farmers.

“Our goal from the very start was to create world-class spirits from locally sourced ingredients right here in Grand Rapids,” says Head Distiller Brian Pribyl. “We owe a great deal of credit to our suppliers like Heffron Farms and Pilot Malt House for giving us access to the cereal grain and malted grain that we need to produce spirits to our high standards. By using locally sourced ingredients, our line-up of spirits offers a sense of place and terroir, similar to a nice wine, that really highlights all that West Michigan has to offer.”

Long Road Cherry Brandy offers a special taste of West Michigan, packing over 24 pounds of cherries into every 375 ml bottle available. The distillery has partnered with Heffron Farms on other fruit-inspired spirits in the past, including last year’s special release of Raspberry Flavored Vodka.

In addition to using local grain and fruit in their spirits, Long Road is proud to highlight the fresh flavors of Michigan in their craft cocktail and food menu as well.

“We’re excited to partner with Heffron Farms, Peach Ridge Farms, and Visser Farms to offer food and drinks that incorporate fresh ingredients like cantaloupe, raspberries, cherries, rhubarb, strawberries, peaches and more,” says Daniel Lovig, General Manager & Beverage Director at Long Road. “The Cherry Brandy is just one more tool for us to use in crafting the best, most unique cocktails possible!”
