Library Partners with ArtWalk 2016 with Two Art-Themed Workshops September 14th and 15th

In preparation for ArtWalk 2016 from September 21st through October 9th, the Loutit District Library will host two free art workshops presented by Michigan artist Jane Alkon.

The first workshop will be held on Wednesday, September 14th. Students will create their own free-standing sculpture inspired by the art of Louise Nevelson. Using blocks of wood and wooden objects, the students’ shapes will be arranged and glued into place, paying attention to light, shadow and balance. Their “Nevelson” sculpture will be painted matte black, true to the style of Nevelson, and will be a reflection of their own personal vision..

The second workshop will be held on Thursday, September 15th. Students will create your own modern art piece inspired by the art of Yaacov Agam. They will discover your own creative vision as they create a professional looking piece of optical art, suitable for hanging in your own home!

Both workshops run from 4pm to 6pm in the library’s Program Room A.

Supplies for the workshops are included, however, registration is required for each session. To register online, visit or call 616-842-5560, ext. 200 during normal business hours.
