What’s Happening in Northern Michigan: Gravity Festival, Sip n’ Sail, Paint & Create

Northern Michigan’s News Leader

The Crystal Mountain Gravity Festival is coming up on Saturday, August 27th in Thompsonville. In its fifth year, plan to join bikers, runners, and families from all over for a day of fun. The day kicks off with the “Against Gravity Mile” where racers run, walk, or crawl a mile straight up the mountain. Spend the rest of the day participating in the Family Kite Building Competition, a downhill bike race, disc golf competition, live music, and barbeque with spectacular views from the Crystal Mountain chairlift rides.

Arnold Mackinac Island Ferry is offering special “Sip n’ Sail” cruises for the rest of the summer, which will take you out on the Straits of Mackinac for a sightseeing cruise, live entertainment, and local beverages! Cruises are around 90 minutes, and depart from Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, and Mackinac Island. Their summer entertainment cruises run through mid-September, and offer local beverages, including wine from Chateau Grand Traverse. They make for a memorable night out, with great scenic views of the Mackinac Bridge.

Adults have loved creating masterpieces in Boyne Highlands’ Canvas Uncorked painting events, and now your child or teen can get in on the fun! Designed for children ages seven and above, Paint & Create unleashes your child’s inner artist. With step-by-step instruction, no painting experience is necessary. At the end of the event, your child will go home with a souvenir of their own creation! The next Paint & Create session takes place this Saturday at Boyne Highlands from 11am until 12:30pm. The $35 registration fee includes all painting supplies and instructions, juice, and a snack.
