This special weekend celebrates wine, chocolate and love in anticipation of Valentine's Day! The combination of winter's beauty in Leelanau with the special pleasures of life always makes for wonderful weekend.

The weekend starts on Saturday as participants head to their first winery stop to collect a souvenir glass. Then the fun begins with special pours and tasty chocolate treats offered at wineries between the hours of 11am and 5pm on Saturday, and Noon and 5pm on Sunday. However, because one cannot survive on chocolate alone (tempting as it may sound), savory dishes will be served at a number of tasting rooms.

Cost: $30 per person.

If you are looking for something special to do with a group of friends or a romantic evening with your date, we’ve planned the perfect evening! Four stations featuring a lovely blazing fire will be placed throughout your 5K Glide. Each station will offer delicious food prepared by local businesses, accompanied by beverages. Once guests arrive back at the Lodge, our group will have the option to continue the evening in a heated tent with music or cross-country skiing at Winter Sports Complex’s Intermediate level, well lit groomed trail. You can ski the full 5k or just the dine trail. $40 per person.

Surprise your special someone with an experience they’ll never forget at Binder Park Zoo’s ZOOROTICA Tour. Join Binder Park Zoo on February 13 or 14 and learn about the love lives of the feathered, furry, and fanged. The ZOOROTICA tour runs from 1 pm to 5 pm and includes a special presentation and hors d’oeuvres. Cost is $35 per person or $65 per couple. Spaces are limited and reservations must be made by February 9, by calling the zoo office Monday thru Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm. Experienced staff will lead you on a tour exploring the sexual lives of animals. The tour will end with hors d’oeuvres and a special DVD presentation on animal mating behaviors. Each couple will receive a small gift to commemorate their experience. This is an “adults only” event and participants must be 21 years or older. The event was sold out last year and received high praise from the participants. Learn the facts of wild animals’ private lives.

The public is invited to experience the fun and romance of local wine, desserts, art, music, and Valentine’s Day at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa during the Winter Wine Wonderland - a celebration of wine, gourmet desserts, and art. The Winter Wine Wonderland will take place on Sunday, February 14 in a large heated tent located next to the Resort’s Clubhouse. Approximately 20 wineries from Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas and Traverse City will offer tasting of a variety of white, red, and sparkling wines, plus ice wine and mulled wine. Tickets provide entry to the large heated Winter Wine Wonderland tent where you will find local wine tasting niches scattered throughout, a large dessert table featuring chocolates from Mimi Wheeler of Grocer’s Daughter Chocolates and from the Resort’s Pastry Chef Carolyn Riley. Select Northern Michigan artists representing a variety of media will have work on display and be in attendance to discuss their work. The New Third Coast will also be playing with a selection of regional musicians singing love songs in the “Love in Northern Michigan” show. One of the highlights during the event will be an evening fireworks display on Resort grounds at 7 pm.

Couples Tickets: $35; Single Ticket: $20. Tickets include souvenir wine glass, five wine tasting tickets, five dessert tasting tickets per person. This year Cascade Winery is celebrating Valentine's Day with an elegant sit down dinner. The chef will start out the event with creamy soup in a crunching bread bowl followed with a salad garnished with pear, caramelized pecans, and feta. The main dish is chicken in a wine sauce. The meal will be finished off with a mouthwatering dessert. Included with this incredible meal Cascade Winery will also be offering a glass of your choice of wine or beer.

There will be two seatings: 2 pm and 5 pm. Each seating will have approximately 12 spots available. This event has limited spots so claim yours quickly! If you are planning on attending with another couple, please call in advance so that we can be sure to properly arrange your table.
