Known as the fishing capital of Lake Michigan, Two Rivers was aptly named for the East and West Twin Rivers that come together at this point before flowing into Lake Michigan. In the early 1800’s, twin piers were constructed to protect the fishing and boating industries, and the Lighthouse board constructed a small thirty – six foot tall skeletal wooden light on the end of the North pier to provide guidance to fishing vessels.

The light was equipped with a fixed red 240 degree Sixth Order Fresnel lens, and was supported with a diaphone fog signal. An iron catwalk above the pier gave the keepers some degree of respite from the waves that crashed over the pier on stormy days.

The light was rebuilt in 1928 due to deterioration. In 1969, the Coast Guard determined that the light no longer performed a necessary function and the entire structure was donated to the Two Rivers Historical Society who then relocated it to the Rogers Street Fishing Village Museum. Reconstructed with a wide wooden walkway, the tower is open for visitors from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. May through October. There is a $2 per person or $5 per family fee.

Directions: From Highway 42, turn west on Jackson Street and follow that to the Rogers Street Fishing Village complex.
