Known as Island of Pebbles, Ile Aux Galets is home to Skillagalee Island Rock Light Station, built in 1888. It is the third light to grace the shoreline over the past 100 years. A fog light and keeper's dwelling once shared the narrow strip of land in Lake Michigan. Now, only the octagonal light structure remains about 12 miles northwest of Cross Village.

The original light station was constructed in 1850 and occupied the entire island. The light was automated in 1969 and all buildings except for the light were demolished. The original fourth order Fresnel lens was replaced by a 300mm plastic lens at that time.

This is one of four Straits area beacons visible from the restaurant, Leg's Inn in Cross Village.
