The light at the end of Petoskey's breakwall was constructed in 1899. The cylindrical, steel and concrete structure extends into Lake Michigan, protecting the city's marina. The breakwall was constructed of concrete slabs on stone - filled cedar cribs.

A windstorm in November 2006, damaged the cribs, causing part of the breakwater to settle. Heavy ice and windy conditions the following March washed away two sections. Repairs have been completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The breakwall is a favorite place for locals to gather, whether for fishing or watching the sunset on Little Traverse Bay.
