In 1903, Portage Point Inn opened its doors to families looking for a vacation experience that would blend the unique charms of Northern Michigan with recreational pursuits. The lakes, beaches and dunes surrounding the resort are as captivating today as they were back in the early 1900s when steamships arrived from Chicago. Since then, generations of families have come to Portage Point Inn to enjoy that special time called “vacation”.

Portage Point Inn is positioned on a wooded peninsula with miles of sandy Lake Michigan dunes and beaches to the west and the clear, protected waters of Portage Lake to the east. A wide navigable channel connects the two lakes, located just 3/8 miles south of the resort.

The resort has a campus-like setting, which includes 1,000 feet of frontage on Portage Lake. Our deep-water marina includes shore power and showers and is capable of handling yachts to 100 feet long. Under a succession of owners over the past 100 years, the property has been constantly improved upon or renovated. Current owners happened upon it in 1991. Along with the very busy summer season that guests have enjoyed for generations, the splendor of fall colors, renewal of spring and the quiet peacefulness of the winter are available for our guests enjoyment.

Additions to the ongoing improvements at the resort include three meeting rooms, a fitness room, the pool and whirlpool have been enclosed for year round pleasure. We are the ideal location for family reunions, wedding venues, business meetings or retreats, traveling car clubs, and groups of all kinds. Beech Lodge houses six condos: four two-bedroom and two one-bedroom units.
