It is also the 2nd longest river in Michigan stretching over 219 miles in length. It has been ranked among the top 20 Rivers by Field & Stream for fishing as well as being ranked in the top 12 by National Geographic for recreation. No wonder we are known as the “tubing capital of Michigan.”

Right here in the heart of Michigan, Mecosta County, you can play two of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Courses in America. World-class golf, charming countryside views, great accommodations and fine dining...all the right ingredients for a great golfing experience! This family oriented fishing tournament is being brought to Big Rapids during the DNR’s FREE Fishing Weekend- June 7, 2008 - so no licenses are required! Simply bring your own pole & tackle and get set for a day of great outdoor fun! The first 50 registered participants will receive FREE tournament t-shirts and fishing bait. Prizes will be awarded to the winner in each of the following categories: 0-6 Yr’s, 7-11 Yr’s., 12-17 Yr’s., and 18 + Yr’s. All children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Pre-registered anglers are just $8 each and those registering the day of the event will be $10 each. Fishing packets will be available by 8AM at the Hemlock Pavilion. First official casts will start at 9AM and the final casts will be at 12PM. Prizes will be awarded after all entries have been tallied. For more information log onto www.bigrapidsriverwalk.com
