The Air Zoo - Departures from the Ordinary

A highly charged, multi-sensory atmosphere that goes beyond anything you’ve ever experienced, the Air Zoo is a departure from the ordinary museum. Featuring the Midwest’s only 4D theatre, a fleet of advanced full-motion flight simulators, indoor amusement park rides, and a fleet of over 50 rare aircraft; it’s a one of a kind, year-round destination.

In the award-winning, 4D theater, visitors are dropped into the middle of a World War II bombing mission. And this mission is no ride-along; you’ll feel the rumble and pitch of the aircraft through shaking seats, and smell the burning fuel and rubber, which gives the experience an authenticity that is unmatched, outside of joining the military. Once you’ve earned your wings, you’re ready to sit in the cockpit of the full-motion, state-of-the-art flight simulators, where you’ll be able to man the controls of a military jet with your friends. And if you tire of flying through the Earth’s atmosphere, you can explore space and the International Space Station. After being launched into a 3D tour of the Space Station, you’ll orbit the earth a couple times before reentering the atmosphere for a thrilling return home.

The Air Zoo’s amazing collection of aircraft includes the worlds only remaining SR-71B Blackbird spy plane, which holds world records for both speed and altitude. Also showcased are the F-14 Tomcat made famous in the movie Top Gun, the F-18 Hornet flown by the Blue Angels, and an SBD Dauntless, which has been incredibly restored after spending over 50 years under water.
Where would you expect to see the Worlds Largest Indoor Mural, walk on the deck of the U.S.S. Kittyhawk, or marvel at the various oddities of pre-Wright Brothers flight? Take a look around the Air Zoo, and you’ll soon notice that everything, including our artwork is done on a grand scale.

The mural that adorns the walls of the Air Zoo, named the “Century of Flight” depicts major moments in aviation history, from the first hot-air balloon launch by France’s Montgolfier Brothers, to space, and the mural itself has made history. At over 25,000 square feet (the size of three football fields) the mural has set a Guinness World Record™ as the world’s largest indoor mural.
In addition to the heart stopping flight experiences, historic aircraft, and out of this world artwork, you’ll always have a few more reasons to come back to the Air Zoo. As a result of a partnership with the Smithsonian Institution, the Air Zoo has access to over 142 million artifacts and an endless source of world-famous traveling exhibits.
So whether you come alone, with your family, or as a group outing, there is always something new and exciting to enjoy.
