Dog Parks

A dog park is a facility set aside for dogs and their owners to exercise and play off-leash in a controlled environment. Parks vary in setups, but a typically is fenced, has separate, double-gated entry and exit points, a place to get water, and bags to pick up and dispose of waste. Dog parks are a great way to get the exercise your dog needs and to tire them out when you need to get some work done. They are also a great way to meet other dog lovers and hear about upcoming dog events.

Ferrysburg - Coast Guard Park

A fenced in area to unleash your dog, open from 7am to dusk located at the West end of Coast Guard Park; no fees.

 

Grand Haven - Mulligan's Hallow Dog Park

Unleashed dogs are welcome to run, jump and explore the back woods of Mulligan's Hollow Recreation Area. While not fenced in, Mulligan’s Hallow’s abundant space allows well-behaved dogs to get plenty of room to play and meet other dogs year round. Owned and operated by the City of Grand Haven, the area also includes a concrete skateboard park, playground, and ski hill during the winter months.

Grand Rapids - Shaggy Pines Dog Park

20 acres of fenced, private park with plenty of towering pines, rolling hills, and wide open green spaces. It includes one-mile jogging/hiking trail, large human made dog swimming pond, enclosed small dog area, Doggy Mountain which is a large dedicated sand pile for climbing and digging, a dry dog area, self-serve dog wash tubs and drying areas. It is your dog's very own heaven-on-earth. Located in the heart of Cascade Township serving the Metro Grand Rapids area. It is just three miles from 28th Street .

Harbert - Harbert Dog Park

Picnic spots with grills and a pavilion, playground and fishing pond for kids. Also a regulation size little-league field. Located on Red Arrow Highway

Holland - Ottawa County Dog Park

Large and small dog friendly park. There is a double gated entrance with both a large and small dog section. During the summer months there is running water for the dogs. And if they are stocked there are bags provided for pick up, but it is always nice to bring one just in case. Located on Ottawa Beach road. It is on the Ottawa County Fair Grounds property.

Jackson - Cascades Humane Society

New Paw Playground. Free to the public. Open daily dawn to dusk. 1.5 fenced-in acres. Directions: 1515 Carmen Drive off Elm Street, two blocks South of Interstate 94, past the post office.

Lansing - The Howard & Erna Soldan Dog Park

Soldan Park is a free dog park owned by the City of Lansing and operated by Ingham County Parks. More than 17 acres, diverse natural area, trails, large pond, expansive open field , lots of room for dogs to roam off-leash, Pet / human drinking fountains, special areas enclosed just for small dogs! Location: The Soldan Dog Park is located just north of Hawk Island County Park. The dog park's main entrance is through the park. You may also access the park from the west off the River Trail in Scott Woods. Hawk Island County Park, 1601 East Cavanaugh Rd., Lansing, MI

Manistee - Dog Park near Lake Michigan

The dog park is a fenced 1/2 acre area on the beach for dogs to run leash free. It is handy for those traveling with energetic doggies that need to get out and stretch their legs.

Muskegon - Kruse Park

The park has about one mile of Lake Michigan Beach. The dog beach is located on the beach along the northern part of the park. Location is Sherman at Beach in Muskegon.

New Buffalo - Sari Asher Memorial Park

Sari Asher Memorial Park contains an off-leash dog park located at 1420 East Washington St. Open dawn to dusk. An annual or daily permit (available inside park) is required for each dog present. Dogs must be licensed and have up-to-date rabies vaccinations. Aggressive dogs or dogs in heat are not allowed in this park.

St. Joseph - Kiwanis Park 

Large and small dog areas completely fenced, benches, shade, doggie drinking fountain and scooper bags provided. Kiwanis Park includes six tennis courts, a softball field, two horse-shoe pits, two shuffleboard courts, a basketball court, a picnic shelter, and a skateboard center in addition to the dog park. Location: Corner of Langley Avenue and Pearl Streets. Directions: Park is SE of downtown area. Take Broad Street SE from center of town. Street name changes to Langley . Turn NW on Pearl Street . Kiwanis Park is immediately to left.

Saugatuck - Tails and Trails

Large and small dog park. This park is very nice, leashed until inside the fence. Double gate entrance. As donations come in, they are adding and making improvements. Great place to take the dogs to run, they are suppose to be adding trails to it also! There are trees grass area and sand areas in the run, please remember to pick up after your pets bags are usually supplied, as long as someone has stocked them, so smart to come prepared. Directions: exit 41 head east follow brown signs that say tails and trails...you do have to go onto dirt roads.

Dog Fun Etiquette

  1. Make sure to bring something (like a pooper scooper or bags) to pick up the mess your dog(s) make. Always clean up after your dog.
  2. Bring some water for your dog and a leash (just in case)
  3. Don't bring your dog if it is aggressive
  4. Don't let your pet wander too far. Always keep an eye on them.
  5. If the park is near a residential area, minimize the barking.
